Notes from Darcell's talk

- New Zealand based artist

- Yorkshire sculpture Park, artist in residence.

- Bachelor of creative industries teacher, including; visual art, fashion design, graphic design theory.

- Interested in genealogy, and the idea of legacy, after her father died in her late teens.

- Names and the spaces in which those names occupied.

- Competitive wood chopping.

- 2011- Finding Neitherland; Diaspora around pacific people, 10 colours, 1,000 meters of thread woven into itself, trying to create spaces.

- AUT Visual Arts Exhibition, videos of actions while wearing skirt. Link to woodchopping. Made out of rafia referencing the grass skirt, where does identity come from? Does it have to be forced? Idea of ‘otherness’.

- Brochures for the employer and employee of how to deal with each other. How to deal with a ‘pacific; person when you insult them. Make sure they’re in a safe space.

- Idea of a nuclear family.

- Whakapap/ Genealogy- Death, morality and legacy.

- Generation Exchange 2016- people hearing her significant family stories.
