Visit to The Tetley

On Tuesday our year went on a trip around the three art galleries in Leeds. The first one was The Tetley. The Exhibition was James N Hutchinson's "Untitled". It featured a range of works from his time at University and him recreating the works now with his current University students. As well as this there was a film by Helen McCrorie, "If play is neither inside nor outside, where is it?" It was a particularly influential film to me, and featured children running through derelict sights and playing, The editing style was so satisfying and featured sounds being added when the children played with certain things.

Helen McCrorie is an artist working with video and documentary strategies. If play is neither inside nor outside, where is it? centres on a child-led outdoor playgroup that meets in the grounds of a former military camp in Scotland. This site, adopted by families for imaginative play and experiential learning, also houses a bunker transformed into a data storage facility. The film celebrates innate creativity and explores our understanding of data gathering and learning as interconnected, yet diverging, processes. The film inspired me to shoot some footage during the BEDHEAD shoot thats on this Wednesday. I just really enjoyed the editing style and how it presents the imagination of the children.
