I showed Nicola my 35mm photos from London Fashion Week, as well as designs I have planned for my pillow dress. She referred me to the disobedient bodies exhibition by JW Anderson, a fashion designer, who brings fashion into a contemporary visual art setting. She urged me to consider why am I bringing my art into the context of fashion, and could my final piece for the degree show include a catwalk? I liked this idea, and this is definitely something that I feel drawn towards doing in order to consolidate my practice. Other artists who tread the line in between fashion and art which she referred me to were, Claire Barrow, a painter who paints on leather, and Neesha Tulsi Campaneria. Nicola encouraged me to think about why I document things in a certain way (e.g. using Polaroids and 35mm film). I explained how I like how intimate it feels, and how you only get one shot, which cannot be edited or viewed until developed. I think that using this analogue method of photography is something that I would like to continue whilst documenting the making and modelling of the pillow dress. Nicola further suggested that I could take the dress into certain places wherre people feel stressed, and document someone wearing it there. She urged me to think about why a dress? what comment am I making? who is going to wear it? How is it going to operate? These questions are ones that I am still formulating answers to.
