Thinking about the Pillow Dress

After discussing the idea of the Pillow Dress with Nicola I began to construct it. I used a pinafore dress that I knew fit me for the pattern, and cut the dress out of calico. I had to stitch a zip into it, which I had never done before but I managed to work out how to do it. I had to sew the pillows that I'd ordered from Wilco into smaller sizes so that the dress wouldn't be to heavy, and so I could edit its shape. I began tagging the pillows onto the front of the dress whilst I was wearing it so I could see how they hung. I completed the front of the dress and photographed it, I would like to add pillows to the back of the dress as well, however I don't want it to be too heavy and become overwhelmed. I think that it was a success as it has a professional look, and is reminiscent of the techniques that I used on the Finale Dress for Vin and Omi at Fashion Week. I think my next step with the dress would be to try and attach pillows to the back, which may be a challenge. I'd also like someone to model it for me in the studio, I'd love to create some kind of editorial shoot around this, and when I make more pieces, ultimately create a magazine of my work called 'BEDHEAD'. The images would be edited with a pale blue background with clouds, kind of taking the concept from many mattress adverts. Ultimately, so far this has been incredibly successful and I am going to continue working with tactile materials as part of this project, such as making trousers out of a fluffy blanket.
